EcoCAR 2 is proud to announce two bronze-level sponsors: QNX and its parent company, Research in Motion (RIM). QNX will provide the operating system used in the Freescale center stack teams are implementing in their vehicles. The company will also offer technical support and training throughout the next two-plus years of the competition. RIM will work with EcoCAR 2 teams to engage them in the BlackBerry® Academic Program, which helps colleges and universities around the world offer courses in administering and supporting the BlackBerry® solution and development for the BlackBerry platform.

“I believe that the addition of QNX as a EcoCAR sponsor will greatly improve the experience students receive when participating in EcoCAR 2, especially those who are developing reconfigurable Center Stack and Instrument Cluster units,” said John Cotner, field applications engineer at Freescale Semiconductor. “The QNX CAR 2 application platform running on the Freescale i.MX6Q processor that is being supplied to the EcoCAR 2 teams represents a true state of the art hardware / software platform for automotive graphical systems. From QNX, the teams will not only receive the Neutrino Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) that is very popular in automotive applications, they will also have access to a HTML5 framework and many advanced applications such as voice recognition, navigation, media player interface, Bluetooth / WiFi connectivity, etc.”
