Showcasing over 20 vendors, Santa Monica’s AltCAR Expo pushes to provide one of the most extensive presentations of alternative technology vehicles and transportation, infrastructure, renewable energies, energy efficiency, and urban planning found worldwide. Similar to last year’s event, AltCAR offered a rare hands-on experience ride and drive area for visitors and professionals. Popular vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf, Toyota Rav4 EV, Chevrolet Spark EV, and the Chevrolet Volt were among many others that were available to test drive. The Expo also provided a cutting edge Fleet Conference to offer consumers information on all aspects of alternative vehicle energy, infrastructure and sustainability.
For a second year in a row, CSULA’s EcoCAR 2 team collaborated with competition headline sponsor General Motors (GM) to display their 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, alongside GM’s infamous 2014 Chevrolet Volt and their newest all electric range creation, the 2014 Spark EV. CSULA’s team section was equipped with flyers and giveaway goodies. There was also a display of their vehicle where spectators got to engage with the student engineers and view all of the changes that they made to the vehicle to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
“Being able to attend AltCAR Expo for a second year is amazing news for us,” said Yessenia Toscano, Mechanical Team Lead for CSULA’s EcoCAR 2 team. “We love that we get to interact with the general public and inform them about the work we do in the competition, but we also enjoy talking about how influential events like AltCAR can be in terms of educating people on sustainability and green technology.”
