Perhaps you’ve decided to walk to work today. Maybe you’re going to plant a tree. Whatever you’ve got planned, the fact that you’re more aware of the planet is a step in the right direction. Most of the EcoCAR team is now running around SAE Congress in Detroit and it’s clear that the auto industry is keenly aware of our place in history. We’re excited to be part of such a big change in history. Monday, as SAE Congress opened, Governor Schwarzenegger remarked that “It’s easy to stay with the status quo and not venture out too far and to be innovative.” Well, the easy days are officially over.
All around the country today, individuals are “venturing out” toward innovation, whether they’re doing so as engineers under the hood in Detroit, as future vehicle engineers like the 17 EcoCAR Challenge teams or as every-day citizens showing support. Google “Earth Day+Vehicles” in Google News today and you’ll see the spirit of innovation at work across the world. From events such as “Sustainability in Marketplace” at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where alternative vehicles are on display today, to the “Free Clean for Green” event in the Bay Area, which offers a complimentary car wash for all hybrids or electric vehicles, we’re celebrating a greener future together. People are indeed venturing out.
So, on behalf of Inside the Green Garage blog, happy Earth Day! Venture out yourself today and let us know what you’re seeing.
