February 17-23 is National Engineers Week, an annual event put on by – who else – the National Engineers Week Foundation! According to the foundation’s website, “Engineers Week celebrates the positive contributions engineers make to society and is a catalyst for outreach across the country to kids and adults alike. Engineers Week is part of many corporate and government cultures and is celebrated on every U.S. engineering college campus.”
Considering that this year’s theme is “Celebrate Awesome,” the event is a good time to reflect on the leadership of EcoCAR 2’s many student competitors as stewards of engineering. One of the core tenets of National Engineers Week is to volunteer to educate the general public – especially young people – about the value of engineering. That’s something EcoCAR 2 competitors do constantly through outreach events at local schools and other community gatherings.
So this week, let’s get out in full force to continue spreading the word about green engineering, and don’t forget to congratulate and celebrate your fellow eco-engineers!
