Since the FutureTruck competition in 1999, MathWorks has sponsored the Penn State University’s Advanced Vehicle Team (PSU AVT). As a leading computing software company, MathWorks provides the EcoCAR 3 teams with MATLAB and Simulink, software tools for creating mathematical models of the vehicles. MATLAB and Simulink allow the EcoCAR 3 teams to test vehicles in a virtual environment, saving time and money. These tools are key when testing the vehicle’s control algorithm, ensuring safety and road-readiness.

By using MathWorks’ products, engineering students gain first-hand experience with industry software in a working environment. The popularity of MATLAB across various industries gives students in the EcoCAR 3 competition an advantage in technical careers. In return, MathWorks can expand its brand awareness among young professionals and receive feedback.
