Our Plan

Ohio State EcoCAR is building a series-parallel plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powered by E85. In the spring of year two, Ohio State EcoCAR plans to integrate all major powertrain components into the Camaro. This includes a 2.0 liter engine, five-speed automated manual transmission, 150 kW electric machine, and an 18.9 kWh energy storage system.

Baseline testing began in January. This year’s vehicle build will begin in February and end in April

Technical goals

ACCELERATION

  • A vehicle with the power to meet 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds

SAFETY

  • A multi-year validation strategy for evaluation and refinement of controls

RIDE AND HANDLING

  • Maintain expected ride and handling performance through vigorous dynamic testing

EMISSIONS

  • A vehicle with reduced emissions relative to the stock Camaro, targeting fewer than 115 g/km well to wheel greenhouse gas emissions

ENERGY CONSUMPTION

  • A vehicle with electric-only range of 45 miles and an overall fuel economy of 63 MPGge

CONSUMER ACCEPTABILITY

  • A showroom-ready vehicle with innovative features including DRIVE (Driver Recommendation for Increased Vehicle Efficiency)
