Polar Bear Sighting at Natick Workshop!

Project Management organization EarthPM talks about training experiences at the Year Two Fall Workshop.

It’s a bit of an inside joke, but a polar bear made a guest appearance at the EcoCAR Year Two Fall Workshop.  So did a lion on a Volvo, a jealous cement truck driver and a slightly mischievous Jack Russell terrier.

It was all in good fun – and part of the learning – at the Fall Workshop’s Project Management training sessions.  These characters were either featured in videos about managing project risk or brainstorming techniques, and they were part of the workshop which was well-attended and highly interactive.

EarthPM was thrilled to participate and directly interact with the students, faculty advisors, organizers, and sponsors of the EcoCAR 2 competition.  We felt welcomed during our visit and believe that the students derived a lot of benefit from the course, which covered project management basics such as:

  • Brainstorming (that’s where the polar bear made his appearance)
  • Work Breakdown Structures
  • Critical Path
  • Schedule compression
  • Gantt charts
  • Risk Management
  • Project communications skills

The students and other participants’ contributions exceeded our expectations and we hope we did the same for them. As instructors we often learn a lot from the participants, and this was no exception; indeed it was a prime example.  We hope EcoCAR 2 teams enjoyed the Project Management training and can use the training as prime examples back at their universities!
