The Penn State EcoCAR 2 team was proud to recently host Rick Price, the Executive Director of Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities (PRCC), at its garage! PRCC is responsible for helping to strategically support the infrastructure required to create a thriving alternative fuel vehicle market in Western Pennsylvania. Despite its name, PRCC’s reach spreads all across Western PA and the whole way out to PSU’s home in State College.
Co-team leaders Eduardo Barrientos and Luke Shepley, and Outreach members Allie Lilly, Taylor Kidd and Brenna Thorpe met with Price to establish a relationship between the PSU team and PRCC that will last throughout the EcoCAR2 competition. After a tour of the garage and a quick spin around campus in the team’s vehicle from EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge, the group discussed the recent activities of PRCC, including efforts to encourage major stakeholders to install Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the state. The team was excited to see that PRCC is also enthusiastic about the recent plans for EV chargers on the PA Turnpike!
PSU also began collaborations with PRCC on several events over the next year. Members of the outreach team are looking forward to visiting the PRCC Board of Directors in Pittsburgh at a stakeholders’ meeting in April to tell them more about the team’s goals as competitors in EcoCAR2.
