There’s no red carpet at SAE Congress 2009, but if you drive a vehicle, care about future of our planet or just enjoy the designer outfits (we’ll, not so much the outfits), there’s something for you in Detroit next week. Here’s what to watch for:
– The opening ceremony features Michigan’s Governor Granholm, who, among other things, has promised to make her state the advanced battery capital of the world and home to the next generation of vehicles to power them. Her remarks should be interesting, especially now.
– Governor Schwarzenegger is Monday’s featured speaker. Considering his state’s role in shaping the future of vehicles in this country, this should be interesting too.
– SAE International’s – A World in Motion® Jet Toy Olympics. Not on the same level as speeches by governors, but engineers have to have fun too. You can’t go wrong with 500 elementary school children in a big hall with race balloon-powered toy cars. The goal is to learn to work together as an engineering design team. Let’s call it EcoCAR Jr.
There will be plenty to see in Detroit next week. The theme for the event is “Racing to Green Mobility.” We’ll be racing around SAE Congress too, so stay tuned for our take on the companies, people and technologies that are turning heads and making news.
