What Does the UTK EcoCAR 3 Team Have that Other UTK Student Organizations Don’t?

Written by Liz Floyd, Communications Manager for University of Tennessee, Knoxville EcoCAR 3 team

There are a plethora of student organizations and club teams at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), but here’s why UTK students want to join our EcoCAR 3 team.

We pride ourselves in tradition.

UTK has participated in Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (AVTC) since they began in North America in 1988. Our team has competed in 16 of the 26-year history.

We welcome all types.

There are four teams that make up the UTK EcoCAR 3 team: Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Business, and Communications. From non-traditional to busy seniors, from Environmental Studies minors to Mechanical Engineering majors, students on the UTK team vary in age and background.

We play to win.

Now, and in the future. UTK has the advisors and facilities to support an EcoCAR 3 team of over 40 students with legs in three different colleges. Project deliverables include assignments that prepare students for challenges the workforce. In the past three years, General Motors has hired ten students from the UTK team.
