We’re Looking for YOU! EcoCAR 2: Plugging In to the Future Request for Proposal

Interested in green vehicle innovation? Being part of a team? Getting hands-on experience and a firsthand look into the auto industry? Then you’ve come to the right place!

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), General Motors and other key  sponsors like Natural Resources Canada, MathWorks, dSPACE and A123 Systems are sponsoring EcoCAR 2: Plugging In to the Future. Managed by Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), EcoCAR 2 launches in the 2011 academic year following the Year Three Finals of EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge.

Today, ANL’s Kristen De La Rosa will be in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE), the annual meeting of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), where she will announce the release of the EcoCAR 2 Request for Proposal (RFP) to the ASME Department Heads Forum.

Through the competitive RFP process, up to 16 universities will be awarded a highly-coveted spot on the roster for EcoCAR 2. The selected teams will be charged with minimizing the environmental impact of a GM production vehicle utilizing various electric powertrain architectures. EcoCAR 2 will provide an invaluable opportunity for college and university students to take part in hands-on automotive research and development while using industry-leading tools and practices.

If you think your school is up for the challenge, go to the EcoCAR 2 website to complete the Notice of Program Interest and receive a copy of the RFP. University proposals are due on January 11, 2011 and teams will be announced in April 2011.

Questions concerning the RFP and EcoCAR 2: Plugging In to the Future should be sent to ecocar2@anl.gov. Consult the FAQs and related discussions at http://www.ecocarchallenge.org/ecocar2/index.html.
