Where Are They Now: University of Victoria’s David Killy

David Killy, also known as DK, recently completed a long run with University of Victoria (UVic) EcoCAR 2. When he graduated this past May from University of Victoria, DK already had a job lined up: controls strategist at General Motors of Canada.

He says that working with the UVic EcoCAR 2 team for three years was a huge part of getting the job.

“You get valuable experience that you don’t learn anywhere else,” said David. “No other co-ops allow you to see a design through from conception to implementation. You learn a lot about vehicle design very quickly and learn how to perform your tasks with minimal supervision.”

For DK it was an obvious choice to join a competition like EcoCAR 2 – since his first year at University he was drawn to the project.

“As a competitive swimmer growing up, I’ve always been thrilled by competition,” David added. “When I see all the work that the other teams have put into their cars and realize how serious our competitors are, I get excited. It gives a purpose to all the hard work we’ve done for the competition.”

EcoCAR 2 was just the first step in David’s engineering journey. We wish him the best in the rest of his career!
