Wisconsin Utilizes Popsicle Sticks to Teach Kids about Hybrids

Members of the University of Wisconsin EcoCAR Team have been volunteering at outreach events frequently in recent months. One event the team found very rewarding was the Edgewood College Science Night for families with small children. Several team members were on hand to man an informational EcoCAR booth.

Along with several other organizations presenting on science and technology, the Wisconsin EcoCAR team helped teach children ages 4-12 about alternative vehicles. The team demonstrated the difference between a hybrid vehicle and a regular car using a creative hands-on model involving popsicle sticks.  Kids had the opportunity to create their very own “pretend” hybrid vehicles and also learned about the real technology.

We applaud the Wisconsin team for working to inspire the next generation of eco-engineers!
