In Year Two of EcoCAR 3, teams worked with organizers to secure hardware, software and industry mentors to help them integrate their hybrid-electric designs into a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, with the end goal of making the vehicle even more energy-efficient without losing high-performance and safety features Camaro buyers expect.
EcoCAR 3 teams received their Camaros in December of 2015 and have spent the last few months disassembling the existing powertrain and integrating the new powertrain configuration they designed in Year One. For the first time in the four-year competition, EcoCAR 3 teams will travel from all over the country to bring their eco-friendly Camaro prototypes and test them at the Year Two Competition, held in Yuma, AZ and San Diego, CA!
From May 16 – 21, 2016, teams will gather in Yuma at the GM Desert Proving Grounds (DPG) to undergo a series of safety and technical inspections and qualify for on road vehicle testing, including dynamic safety, skid pad and energy consumption events. Teams will conclude the first stage of the competition with a comprehensive Vehicle Design Review event before traveling to San Diego on May 21, for the second stage of the competition.
In San Diego, teams will participate in more than a dozen technical, communications, and project management presentations highlighting their activities from the year, and culminating in an awards ceremony on May 26 to determine which university will take home the Year Two Competition top honors.
