September marked the first time the Year Two Faculty Advisor Board (FAB) came together to discuss the EcoCAR 2 program.
Hosted at Virginia Tech, the FAB provided critical academic input and direction to EcoCAR organizers. The “FAB Four,” as they are called, consists of four EcoCAR faculty advisors who come from a mix of veteran and incoming teams involved in Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (AVTC).
The Year Two FAB includes Doug Nelson, Virginia Tech, Marshall Molen, Mississippi State University, Marc Compere, Embry-Riddle, and Vahid Motevalli, Purdue University.
The September FAB meeting covered a variety of topics, including rules, team deliverables and competition events. The FAB and EcoCAR organizers also had the chance to tour Virginia Tech’s Ware Lab. The Ware Lab, which provides a learning ground for student design and manufacturing, features a variety of student engineering programs at Virginia Tech, including the Virginia Tech EcoCAR 2 team!
“Virginia Tech was honored to host the first Fall FAB meeting for Year two of EcoCAR 2,” said Dr. Doug Nelson, Virginia Tech Advisor and FAB member. “These FAB meetings allow some faculty input and viewpoints to be heard by the competition organizers, and discussion of the future of the competition. Overall, the meeting was very successful!”
In addition to touring the Ware Lab, FAB members were able to explore Virginia Tech’s campus and celebrate a special birthday of FAB member and Purdue advisor, Vahid Motevalli!
The Year Two FAB will meet again in January at Mississippi State University to discuss the Year Two competition in more detail and other key deliverables of the program.
EcoCAR 2 organizers would like to thank the FAB members for attending, and send a special thank you to Virginia Tech for hosting the meeting!
